This is what Christ-followers do. We pray.
Those of us who follow Christ look beyond the national election and we pray. We pray for the current president. We pray for the president-elect. We pray for current elected officials. We pray for others who were just voted in and will take office in the near future.
We pray.
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone — for kings and for those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ who gave himself as a ransom for all men — the testimony given in its proper time…" (I Timothy 2:1-6).
Exactly the appropriate response to today. Amen.
In times of trouble we love to quote:
2 Chronicles 7:14 ‘If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.’
I think people forget we have some serious prerequisites to God healing our land…like humbling ourselves and turning from our wicked ways. Clearly, we have a long journey ahead of us before this land will be healed.
