About
I started this blog about seven years ago. The topics vary but the tone does not. I really intend for this to be encouraging.
Life is often hard. In fact, it is often very hard. It can also become complicated.
I have no easy answers or formulas to live by. I have chosen to intentionally follow Christ and his teachings, though I do so imperfectly. The posts as well as my comments reflect this commitment.
I am also a life long learner. When I stop learning, this blog needs to end.
Now for some background.
I was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. I grew up in Dallas and lived there through college. In 1976, I graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.A. in Business Administration. In 1977, I moved to Florence, Alabama and began studying at what was then, International Bible College. I met Charlotte who was from that area and we married in August 1978. Eventually, we moved to Abilene, Texas where we both began working on Master’s Degrees at Abilene Christian University. (She completed an M.A. in Education in which she was certified as a reading specialist.) After a few years, I completed the Master of Divinity program. We then moved to Florence, Alabama again, where I began preaching for the College Church. During that time, I completed the Doctor of Ministry program at Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis, Tennessee.
Where We Have Been
We have lived in Alabama, Missouri, and Texas. Both of us (Charlotte and myself) enjoyed living in each one of these states.

Family
Charlotte and I have been married for thirty-three years. We have two married daughters. We love our daughters and our sons-in-law.
Christine graduated from Harding University (Searcy, Arkansas) in May, 2005. For five years, she worked as a sales representative for the Wrigley Corporation and was based in Middle Tennessee. She married Phillip Wood (also a Harding graduate) on September 3, 2005. Phillip is a pharmaceutical sales representative. They have one child, Brody, who I adore.
Our youngest daughter Jamie graduated from Oklahoma Christian University in December 2008. She lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and is finishing her Master’s degree in Social Work from The University of Oklahoma. She married Calvin Kiburz in August (2011).
What I Enjoy
Great coffee; warm moist cookies or brownies; vanilla ice cream with cinnamon stirred in; chips and salsa or chips and guacamole; Mexican food.
- Being with Charlotte.
- Being with our children and sons-in-law.
- Riding my bike.
- Exploring new and unfamiliar places.
- Being on vacation.
- Going to the ocean or the mountains.
- Sitting at a coffee place with a newspaper or a good book.
- Tinkering with my iPhone, computer or Kindle.
- Watching football.
- Laughing with friends.
- Grilling–most anything.
