On Saturday, our daughter Jamie left with two dozen other college students for Ghana. For three weeks, they will work with The Village of Hope, an orphanage. She left DFW airport, flew to London, and then changed planes to fly into Ghana.
For three weeks, we will not hear from her. The village has no electricity (a storm knocked out the power). No e-mails or phone calls.
I look at this website and try to imagine our daughter there. I imagine her with these children. (She has always loved children and is a magnet for them.) I can see her now, playing soccer or basketball. Most of all, I can imagine her loving these children.
I pray for her several times a day. I pray that she will enjoy her trip. I pray that God will be very active in her ministry to these children as she tutors some of them each evening. I pray that God will be at work in her that the experience will leave a lasting impact.
Each day, I look at the Ghana itinerary. Tomorrow she is to visit the "Street Children’s program in Accra." I don’t know what that is, but I pray for God’s rich blessing.
Sounds great. I pray our daughters have such a desire one
day.
Jim,
I pray God’s blessings on your daughter, her safety, and the work she’s doing.
Ben
Jamie is such a special young lady whose presence will be a blessing to these children.
Jerry and I will be praying for her each day.
Mary
Jim, It is a delight to know that Jamie is taking this opportunity to work in Ghana. It was always my dream to do something like that! I will be praying for her and the souls she is influencing during this time. Connie
That will be a terrific experience. I know Tommy Drinnen and Fred who work at the Village of Hope pretty well and they are great people doing amazing things for God. They are in our prayers to learn, grow, and be safe.
Mary, Ben, Darin,–Thanks so much for your prayers. That means a lot.
Thanks Matt– That is very good to hear.
Thank you Connie. I am so glad that she was able to go.
I have been to the VOH several times and I can assure you that your daughter will be safe and well cared for. There is sporadic electricity due to the low water level at the Volta hydroelectric dam – this has been a problem for many months now. You can visit Tommy Drinnens web site and learn more about the VOH. He is an American missionary managing the school which is located on the VOH campus.
